- American Cleaning Institute provides comments on key global benchmark for climate action
The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) submitted comments to Science Based Targets (SBTi) draft Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2, a global benchmark for businesses committed to ambitious climate action. SBTi is revising this standard to support more companies setting targets and making corporate climate action more effective, to accelerate the pace of decarbonization.
Among the key points raised in comments to SBTi, ACI:
- Recommends that SBTi recognize market-based accounting approaches used in the reduction of scope 1 emissions from low carbon products towards decarbonization targets.
- Asked for additional clarity on timelines and reporting requirements.
- Encouraged guardrails that would prevent double counting, or other actions that could undermine direct supply chain decarbonization.
“ACI commends SBTi for its willingness to hear a variety of perspectives during this consultation period,” said Nathan Sell, Director, Sustainability, American Cleaning Institute. “As the cleaning products industry is working towards reducing emissions throughout the supply chain, it is important to activate a variety of decarbonization levers that will allow us to make the net-zero transition.”
